Professional songwriter and composer organisations SNAC (the Syndicat National des Auteurs et des Compositeurs), UCMF (the Union des compositeurs de Musiques de Films) and UNAC (the Union nationale des Auteurs et des Compositeurs), together with CSDEM (the Chambre syndicale de l’édition musicale), CEMF (the Chambre syndicale des Editeurs de Musique de France) and ULM (the Union des librairies musicales) are pleased of the signing of the code of use and good practice for publishing musical works which took place on 4 October in the presence of the Minister for Culture. With this agreement, the professional organisations who represent songwriters, composers and publishers aim to define certain professional practices and set out a common, objective frame of reference.

They particularly wish to recognise the work of the mediators, Mrs Isabelle Maréchal and Mr Serge Kancel, appointed by the Ministry, without whom this code would not have been a success.

The result of over two years' hard work by songwriters, composers and publishers, the purpose of this code is to provide an objective legal framework for all concerned; details will be included in publishing contracts on the publication, permanent exploitation and continuous monitoring of works, as well as methods of calculating remuneration and transparency of accounts, in order to improve dispute procedures between songwriters and publishers. The creation of a conciliation committee is also evidence of the willingness of all concerned to engage in dialogue.

The signing of this code marks the achievement of an historic agreement.
