DDEX at SACEM

April 2018

Close to 200 members of DDEX (Digital Data Exchange) from all over the world came together at Sacem at the end of April for three days of productive work leading up to the drafting of new international standards to facilitate digital distribution of creative content.

Discussions over the three days focused on defining new international standards for all exchanges between players involved in every element of the digital distribution process (digital platforms, producers, authors’ societies, etc.).

The various standards used throughout the world enable streamlined data exchanges between the thousands of stakeholders in the music industry and transfer of the metadata required for each to operate effectively.

The global consortium for standardising exchanges between online stakeholders includes major media groups, music licensing companies and online service providers. Almost 3,000 companies now use DDEX standards, including collective management organisations, publishers, record companies, technology intermediaries and online music services.

Sacem has major involvement in this consortium, having been a member of the board and chair of the standards group for the exchange of invoicing data between DSPs, producers and authors’ societies for four years, working alongside Apple, and as of this month Google.
