Preparing for the future - A Council for Strategy and Innovation

January 2022

Acting on a recommendation from the Board of Directors, Sacem set up a Council for Strategy and Innovation (CSI) in early November. The goal: to begin a real process of reflection around innovation and to provide the best possible support to creators and publishers in a world that is moving at an increasingly rapid rate.

NFT, blockchain, metaverse, artificial intelligence — how can we truly understand and get a handle on what could be hiding behind these technological tools? How can we tell if they represent opportunities or risks for the value of artistic works? In this digital environment where everything is accelerating, the Board of Directors wanted to create a forum for reflection and dialogue, so that Sacem's members could be better equipped and better served in the face of these developments. Made up of authors, composers and music publishers who are members of the Board of Directors, as well as members of Sacem's Executive Committee, the CSI is being mentored by Jean-Michel Jarre.

The roadmap is clear: prepare the future. This means paying attention to the landscape, anticipating innovations and structural changes in the cultural industry, analysing their implications for Sacem and determining the appropriate strategic or technological approaches going forward. The CSI will meet every two months, at Sacem or in another innovative space, and will hear from experts from around the digital world. It will come up with recommendations and advice to inform the decisions of the Board of Directors. At strategic meetings organised once or twice a year with the Board of Directors, a progress report will be made on the work of the CSI, addressing innovation and specific developments in the market.
