€88.5m royalties were collected abroad. It represents the fifth source of such revenue for SACEM.

SACEM has set up efficient methods
to protect and promote its repertoire
It can operate abroad either directly by creating a dedicated society, or by signing a representation agreement with a local authors’ society.

Creation by SACEM of a society or agency abroad:
This is the case for example in Luxembourg, Monaco, Lebanon and French Polynesia. Contracts are drawn up directly with operators in the country concerned; it collects payments, which it then distributes. -
Signature of a representation agreement by SACEM with a local authors’ society:
In this case, the associated authors’ society draws up contracts with operators in the country concerned, collects payment and transfers to SACEM the sums pertaining to its repertoire.
SACEM then distributed the sums collected to its members. Representation agreements are usually reciprocal: each of the two authors’ societies represents the repertoire of the associated society in its jurisdiction.
These agreements are based on the principle of equal treatment: the same rules apply to SACEM members as to members of the local society in its jurisdiction.
Reciprocally, SACEM will apply the same rules to the foreign authors it represents in its territory as and to its own members.
